we are here to support by the end of the workshop series, you will be able to recognize depression as it commonly presents in Black & Brown boys and men; understand how trauma, racism, masculinity, and cultural expectations influence emotional expression; practice communication skills that foster trust and safety rather than defensiveness; develop practical strategies to support your son's mental health; and know when and how to seek professional help.

learn: overview of the workshop series, depression psychoeducation, group discussion, warning signs and common presentations, triggers and contributing factors.
understand: attachment, emotional safety, trust, masculinity, societal constructs, cultural & family beliefs and values.
Reflect: how you may enable depressive behaviors and how you may unconsciously contribute to criticism, perfectionism, emotional invalidation, control, absence or disconnection, projection, conflict, and generational trauma.
what helps?: learn how to respond instead of react, validate feelings, de-escalate, encourage therapy, repair after conflict, build emotional safety; role plays and feedback.
cultivate emotional safety: boundaries, repair conversations, communication skills, connection, and identifying and incorporating intentional practices.
moving forward: individual action plans, identify next steps, referrals, resources, community, graduation and a three-month follow-up group.

what to
expect?
Digital Workbook & guide: you will receive a digital guide and workbook containing workshop materials, reflection exercises, practical tools, and resources to support your learning throughout the six weeks.
Homework: you will receive a homework assignment after weeks 1–5. Each assignment is designed to help you take what you learned during the workshop and apply it to your everyday life and relationship with your son.
PRACTICE & APPLICATION: you will have opportunities to reflect, practice new skills, work through real-life scenarios, and consider how you can respond differently.
AFTERCARE PLAN: the workshop doesn't end after week 6. You will leave with an individualized aftercare plan that identifies your next steps, supportive resources, and ways to continue building on what you've learned. Participants will also have access to a three-month follow-up group to reconnect, reflect, and share progress.
Many Black & brown boys and men hide depression behind phrases like "fine," "good," “i'm straight,” or "blessed and highly favored".

When does the workshop begin?
The workshop series will begin Tuesday, October 6, 2026, and run through Tuesday, November 10, 2026.

WHo is the workshop for?
Parents, caregivers, foster parents, grandparents, and anyone who loves and supports a Black & Brown son.
What time does it start?
The workshop series will be held from 7:00–8:30 PM EST.
Can I enroll if I do not live in Massachusetts?
Yes! You are welcome to participate from anywhere in the United States. However, health insurance billing is only available to participants who meet applicable insurance and licensure requirements. If you are participating from outside Massachusetts, you may register using the self-pay option.
Do I need to have a diagnosis or concern about my son to participate?
No. You do not need to have a formal diagnosis or confirmed concern. This workshop is designed for parents and caregivers who want to better understand their son's mental health and strengthen their capacity to support him.
Can I use my health insurance to pay for the workshop?
Health insurance may be accepted for eligible participants. Coverage and out-of-pocket costs vary by insurance plan, and participation is subject to your plan's benefits and eligibility requirements. Insurance coverage is not guaranteed, and you are responsible for any applicable copay, coinsurance, deductible, or other out-of-pocket costs.
